Newsworthy: Mississippi Makers Fest

Published Friday, 04/21/23 at 12:00PM on The Northside Sun

Mississippi Makers Fest will return on May 13 to the Two Mississippi Museums for an exciting second year. Blues artist Cedric Burnside will headline this year’s musical lineup alongside other performances by Kudzu Kings, Bass Drum of Death, Track45, and 5th Child. The inaugural festival in 2022 included more than 50 vendors, artists, and musicians. The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) is thrilled to bring this free festival back to the metro area to honor the rich culture of the state with fellow Mississippians.

Mississippi Makers Fest is an outgrowth of MDAH’s passion to commemorate our state’s history and celebrate our community. Festival attendees will experience live music, regional artisans, make-and-take activities, food trucks, and more. Come together with our community on May 13 for a celebration of the music and art of our home state at the Two Mississippi Museums in downtown Jackson.

The Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum will be open and free for visits throughout the festival, thanks to a sponsorship from Southern Beverage Company. Everyone is welcome to come and see these Smithsonian-caliber museums this May and year-round. Visitors are also allowed to bring their pets, blankets, and lawn chairs—one per person—to enjoy the best experience at this fun, outdoor festival. Find more information on permissible items on the festival’s website included below.

Mississippi Makers Fest will be held at the Entergy Plaza at the Two Mississippi Museums and along North Street in downtown Jackson on Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The free festival is brought to you by title sponsor, Southern Beverage Company, along with Nancy and Ray Neilsen, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi, the Foundation for Mississippi History, StateStreet Group, Visit Mississippi, C Spire, Regions Bank, Visit Jackson, Gulf South Productions, Carr, Riggs & Ingram, LUCID INK, Mississippi Tent & Party Rental, and radio stations Y101, Your Country US96, Mix 98.7, 93.5 The Legend, Blues 93.1, and 102.1 The Box.
